Dear friends in Christ,
As of March 28, 2008, a total 55 American Catholic youths (and some not so young) of Vietnamese descent have registered with Youth 117 to take part in the World Youth Day this summer. Some of them will also travel to Vietnam to visit their father’s land and to volunteer in a medical mission before the World Youth Day.
The biggest group of 28 pilgrims come from the State of Washington. Next come 17 young adults from Orange County. Others are from Houston, TX, the Bay Area – California. Excitingly, for the first time, Youth 117 has found new recruits from Bakersfield, CA and Louisville, KY
Among the pilgrims there are huynh trưởng and dự trưởng Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể, Sinh viên Công Giáo, and other youth leaders. Accompanying them are 4 priests (2 Salesians and 2 diocesan), 5 sisters from the community of the Dominican Sisters in Houston, TX, and some veterans World Youth Day participants. These young Vietnamese will join with over 120,000 young people from outside of Australia and the Pacific Oceania who will make their pilgrimage to Sydney with the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI and their Australian brothers and sisters.
At this point, there are 11 spots available with Youth 117 for the Australia trip with flights. These places are available only until the end of Wednesday, April 3, 2008.
The schedule of this trip is as follows:
July 07: leaving LAX at 11:50 PM on Qantas Airways
July 09: arriving Sydney at 7:25 AM, then transfering to Melbourne
July 09 – 14: Days in the Diocese and visiting Melbourne and vicinity
July 14: (early AM) leaving Melbourne for Sydney
July 15 – 20 World Yout Day
July 23: leaving Sydney at 1:25 PM for LAX (arriving 9:45 AM same day)
