A group of young theologians and leaders is marking the 50th anniversary of the Roman Catholic Church’s Second Vatican Council with a conference at Boston College.
The conference, scheduled for March 9-11, is being organized by graduate students in BC’s theology department and the International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs.
The Second Vatican Council introduced modernizing reforms, such as celebrating Mass in local languages instead of Latin and efforts to improve relationship with other faiths.
Conference organizers say that despite positive theological insights and movements since then, the church faces numerous issues. The say the conference can assess the present and look with hope to the future.
Among the topics to be discussed are the role of women in the church, liturgy reform and fallout from the clergy sex abuse crisis.
