Ủy Ban Yểm Trợ Dân Chủ và Tự Do Tôn Giáo cho Việt Nam bầy tỏ sự quan tâm nghiêm trọng về những vi phạm tự do tôn giáo xảy ra tại giáo xứ Thái Hà, Hà Nội.
Việc chính phủ Việt Nam tịch thu một phần lớn khu đất của giáo xứ này đã đánh động trái tim của những người Canada, vì những linh mục Công Giáo Canada thuộc nhà mẹ Sainte Anne de Beaupré ở Québec đã mua khu đất này vào năm 1928 để xây nhà dòng Chúa Cứu Thế đầu tiên ở Việt Nam và nhà thờ cho giáo xứ Thái Hà sau đó.
Hành động kết án 8 giáo dân của tòa án Hà Nội với tội danh "phá hoại tài sản nhà nước và gây rối trật tự công cộng" là một sự xúc phạm công lý và sự thật. Những tín hữu vô tội này đã bị kết án một cách bất hợp pháp, dù là án treo, về một tội tưởng tượng tại phiên xử của tòa án quận Đống Đa, Hà Nội ngày 08-12-2008. Trên thực tế, những người này chỉ tham dự những buổi canh thức cầu nguyện hòa bình trên khu đất của chính giáo xứ của họ, đồng thời bảo vệ tài sản của giáo hội. Họ không có hành động bạo lực hay phá hoại nào.
Vì những lý do nêu trên, chúng tôi đòi hỏi chính phủ Việt Nam phải trả lại công lý cho những người bị kết án bất công, và hoàn trả những khu đất đã tịch thu cho những sở hữu chủ đích thực của những khu đất đó. Chúng tôi cũng kêu gọi chính phủ Canada thi hành những biện pháp cần thiết để đòi buộc chính phủ Hà Nội phải tôn trọng nhân quyền và tự do tôn giáo.

Le Comité du Support à la Démocratie et Liberté Religieuse au Vietnam est très soucieux des offenses à la liberté religieuse et aux droits du peuple qui se passent à la paroisse Thai Ha, Hanoi.
La confiscation d'une grande partie de terrain appartenant à cette paroisse entrepris par le gouvernement vietnamien a touché au cœur des Canadiens, puisque les prêtres catholiques canadiens de la maison mère Sainte Anne de Beaupré, Québec, ont acheté ce terrain en 1928 pour construire le premier foyer des Rédemptoristes au Vietnam et l'église pour la paroisse Thai Ha après.
L'accusation des huit paroissiens par le tribunal de Hanoi pour le délit de « détruire les biens de l'état et troubler l'ordre publique » est une offense à la justice et à la vérité. Ces croyants innocents ont été illégalement condamnés, même en probation, d'une crime imaginaire dans un procès qui s'est déroulé le 8 Décembre 2008 au tribunal d'arrondissement Dong Da, Hanoi. En réalité, ces gens ont simplement participé aux paisibles vigiles de prière sur le terrain de leur propre paroisse et en même temps ont protégé les biens de l'église. Ils n'ont manifesté aucun geste de violence ou de destruction.
En conséquence des raisons sus mentionnés, nous demandons au gouvernement vietnamien de rendre la justice à ceux qui sont injustement condamnés, et de restituer les terrains confisqués à leurs vrais propriétaires. Nous demandons aussi au gouvernement canadien de faire le nécessaire pour persuader le gouvernement de Hanoi de respecter les droits de l' homme et la liberté religieuse.

The Supporting Committee for Democracy and Religious Freedom in Vietnam express its deep concern on the violations of religious freedom and people's rights which have been taking place in Thai Ha parish, Hanoi.
The confiscation of a great part of land belonging to this parish by Vietnamese government has hit the heart of many Canadians. The Catholic priests of Mother House Sainte Anne de Beaupré, Quebec, bought this land in 1928 to build the first home of Redemptorists in Vietnam and the church for Thai Ha parish later.
The accusation of eight parishioners by Hanoi tribunal for the crime of "destructing the property of state and disturbing public order" is an offence to justice and truth. These innocent believers were unlawfully condemned for an imaginary crime, even on probation, in a trial of Dong Da district tribunal, Ha Noi, on December 8, 2008. In reality, they only attended peaceful prayer vigils on the land of their own parish and, at the same time, protected the property of the church. They did not show any act of violence or destruction.
For the above reasons, we call on the Vietnamese government to return justice to eight wrongly condemned parishioners and to give back confiscated lands to their real owners. We also request the government of Canada to do all necessary to persuade the government of Hanoi to respect human rights and religious freedom.
